Floral Album 1878
The Floral Album
This floral authograph book has signatures dating from 1878 to 1929. Only pages with known signatures have been scanned and uploaded. In 1878 Parthenia P Calhoon was on the upper Mississippi visiting her brothers Thomas F and Joseph. In 1888, the officers of the str Katie Stockdale signed the book.
The str Katie Stockdale was a luxury packet built expressly for the Pittsburgh Cincinnati Packet Line. Dan Lacey according to Capt Frederick Way was a clerk on the Pittsburgh Cincinnati Packet Line from 1888 on the str Hudson to 1896 on the str Queen City. Charles W Knox was also a clerk from 1886 to 1888 on the Katie Stockdale then moved to the Keystone State . In 1896 Charles W Knox was named captain of the Keystone State. J Harry Ollum was a pilot for several boats in the Pittsburgh Cincinnati Packet Line fleet. On the date of their signatures in Parthenia P Calhoon’s book, Charles W Know was probably the first clerk; Daniel Lacey was his mud clerk; and J Harry Ollum was one of her pilots. This trip was quite possibly the last for the Katie Stockdale. She was dismantled in 1888-89 and her engines, roof bell, and whistle were installed on the Keystone State.
Dory C Poe (Theodore Cochran Poe) was a half first cousin of Parthenia P Calhoon. Both lived in “The Poe House” in Georgetown, PA.
Theodore Cochran Poe signed twice separated by approximately five years.
